(1/3) “I ended up with an unplanned c-section, and my recovery was pretty intense, which affected my milk coming in. By the time my milk came in, he had dropped so much of his birth weight that they recommended we use some donor milk. Breastfeeding was really painful for me; I hadn’t expected it to be so uncomfortable. I didn’t expect it to be automatically easy, but I really hadn’t expected the physical pain. I talked to a lot of people, I saw several lactation consultants, and they all kept assuring me it would get easier. My birth did not go the way that I wanted it to, and I really wanted to nurse, so I was determined. I couldn’t make the birth happen the way I had envisioned, but determination could make this happen. I really tried to just trust that eventually it would be easier than it was in the beginning.”
