(2/3) “At lunch time I would go down and breastfeed her at daycare; I spent all of my lunches with her. I would nurse her, then put her down for her afternoon nap. It made going back to work bearable. I knew from the beginning that I would go back after my 12 weeks of maternity leave, but at only three months old, she was still so fragile, and it was really hard to go back and commit to the office. It was great to be able to go down between meetings. If people can take smoke breaks, I figured I could go take a snuggle break. I know it would have been a lot harder and more stressful to head back to a job that wasn’t as supportive. Especially when my supply stopped responding well to the pump around the five month mark. I was so stressed that I wasn’t able to pump enough to get her through the day at daycare. If I hadn’t been able to switch to nursing at lunch instead, I am not sure I would have made it exclusively breastfeeding through that first year.”
