(2/4) “With all three of my older children, they were breastfeeding once a day when I decided to wean. The only thing I did was tell them starting a few months in advance. I would say ‘You know, you’re going to be 4 soon, and when that happens, we are going to be all done.’ It’s funny. They’ve all had different names for it. My youngest hasn’t given it a name yet but my oldest called it ‘nuck.’ My second called it ‘mamma milk’ and my third, I actually just weaned her (she turned 4 on Halloween), and she called it ‘nuh nuh.’ When my first son was weaned he cried a lot; he really didn’t want to be done. My second, he argued with me. He said he’s not 4, that I was wrong. My third, she did the same. ‘I’m not a big girl! Look at me! I’m just a tiny girl’ she’d say. The first two nights she wouldn’t go to sleep for me. I had to send my husband up. The third night she let me help her go to sleep by just snuggling her and tickling her back, so… yeah, it’s bittersweet.”
