(2/4) “When we had our second child, I was really hoping to breastfeed this time around. We are very sure she’s going to be our last baby and I really wanted the experience of breastfeeding if I could make it work. I was so shocked with how painful it was when I first started. I think a lot of people aren’t honest about how difficult those first few weeks are. I mean, it just feels like you’re facing these astronomical odds that are going to break you down. I remember sitting in bed when she was probably a week or two old, and just sobbing. I was healing from childbirth. I was exhausted, having a four-year-old brings a whole new challenge to having a newborn. My husband, trying to be supportive, was asking “do you want me to make a bottle?” and I am there weeping “no! Don’t you dare make a bottle!” I popped a few Tylenol to survive, and eventually we hit 4 weeks and we turned this corner, and by the time we were at 6 weeks, it was like old hat. Nothing hurt anymore. We are still going strong, we added one bottle of formula after I breastfed her right before bed to help her sleep, but that’s it.”
