(4/4) “If I find that I start getting touched out easily then instead of telling them no, I’ll either just kind of try to cut down on the number of sessions we do per day and distract them with a sippy cup of water or a snack because, you know, they might be hungry or they might just be bored. If I just couldn’t handle it then I would say “ok, but only for a couple of minutes” instead of just letting them go on and on … then I’d countdown to give them warning. So that they know they will have to stop soon. My daughter was the worst at that…I’d give her a warning and then we’d get down to the end of the count down and she just wouldn’t stop. She’d say ‘just a little bit more?’ and I learned that if I gave into that she really did just mean, ‘just a little bit more’ and she’d, latch and suck a couple more times and then say ‘ok, I’m done.’ But, she just needed that extra couple of seconds I guess, and it had to be on her terms.”
